I’m a new Registrar. Now what?
Starting a new job can lead to excitement, nervousness, and every emotion in between. For many, it’s an easy transition, but what if you find yourself in over your head? If you are a registrar who has been in the position for less than three years, you may be overwhelmed with your role and responsibilities and asking yourself the following questions:
What’s Expected of Me? You may have questions about the integral role the registrar’s office plays in your institution’s academic community, and the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to be successful in the registrar profession.
How Do I Deal with FERPA? One of the biggest challenges you may face is understanding and complying with FERPA. The Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act have undergone major changes since 1988, and it’s your responsibility to understand the changes and implications for your campus.
If you are feeling under-trained or overwhelmed, don’t worry – you aren’t alone. AACRAO understands that specific training can help fill in the gaps. Our NEW initiative, AACRAO On the Road, provides the opportunity to get an in-depth look at the inner workings of the Registrar’s Office, as well as gain a better understanding of FERPA. Join us at the College of DuPage (Chicago area) from October 9-10. We have two exciting workshops that will place you on the path to success!
Monday, October 9 & Tuesday, October 10, 9:00 a.m-4:00 p.m.
Dive into the work of the registrar’s office with Stephanie Henning, Registrar at Central College, and get answers to your “what” and “how” questions. A portion of the workshop will focus on FERPA.
Tuesday, October 10, 1:15 p.m.-4:00 p.m.
Ask LeRoy Rooker, who directed the Department of Education’s effort in issuing the new FERPA regulations, the pressing FERPA questions you want answered.
“Very good training, I like how the instructor specifically addressed common misinterpretations of FERPA. These alone helped me to feel more solidified in my understanding.” –AACRAO On the Road Colorado Participant
