William Serrata
As the Vice President for Student Affairs and Enrollment Management for South Texas College, Dr. William Serrata plays an important role in the recognition and advancement of high school and university level students. In this role, he is responsible for leading all areas within the Division of Student Affairs and Enrollment Management, including admissions and records, counseling and advising, student retention, financial aid, student information centers, student welcome centers, student outreach, student assessment centers, career services, job placement, special programs, student judicial affairs, ADA-related services, and, more specifically, Hispanic student access and success within higher education.
During his tenure at South Texas College, Dr. Serrata has provided enrollment management leadership in fostering enrollment growth from 5,000 students to over 29,000 fall credit students, fall to fall student retention has increased to 65%, the second highest amongst large community colleges in Texas, and dual enrollment has grown from 97 students to over 9,000 students participating. In addition, he has served on the college steering committee for the establishment of 7 Early College High School partnerships. Finally, Serrata has provided leadership in establishing a college-going culture in the Hidalgo & Starr County communities resulting in a 93% Hispanic student body at South Texas College.
In recognition of Dr. Serrata’s fine work in the field of enrollment management, he was appointed to serve on the Strategic Enrollment Management Committee by the Commissioner of Texas Higher Education. Currently, he serves on the Workforce Education Leadership Committee and was previously a key contributor on the Executive Committee for the Texas Association of Collegiate Registrars and Admissions Officers. His recent accomplishments include the South Texas College Presidential Jaguar Excellence Award in 2006, the Pecan Campus Employee of the Year Award in 2005, and most recently was inducted as an honorary member of the Phi Theta Kappa International Honor Society.
Dr. Serrata earned a Bachelor’s Degree from Texas A&M University – College Station, a Master’s Degree from The University of Texas at Brownsville, and a Doctorate of Philosophy in Human Resource Development from Texas A&M University – College Station.
